Work Package 3

Work Package 3 – Development of prototype DCIP equipment (WP leader Esben Auken, AU)

The main purpose of this WP is to develop a new prototype DCIP instrumentation by which we can limit the problems with data quality due to capacitive coupling in the measurement cables and also a limited number of simultaneously receiver channels. The idea is to construct a DCIP system with distributed acquisition by several sub 24 bit full waveform receiver units connected to groups of electrodes. In this way the potentials from the electrodes can be conditioned and/or measured close to the electrodes themselves, significantly avoiding the effect of capaci-tive coupling in the cables and diminishing electromagnetic noise (Dahlin and Leroux, 2012). Also the production rate of such a system will increase dramatically as measurement is not limited to 10 or 12 channels. The development will be supported by development of signal processing and data handling algorithms. A secondary goal of this WP will develop a new hardware platform for in situ measurements (El-log) of DCIP data. To facilitate technology transfer to practice, existing DCIP equipment will be modified to fit with the Central Denmark Region’s drill rig, while a new gamma sensor will be developed from scratch. This system will also collect water samples.
